Balancing my social media use

I used to be glued to my phone, scrolling endlessly through social media. At first, it felt harmless, but over time I noticed how it eroded my attention span and left me feeling strangely hollow. The constant comparisons bred insecurity, and the flood of trivial updates created a kind of mental clutter. The turning point came when I realized my mornings were consumed by feeds instead of reflection or focus.

Now, I approach it with much more intentionality. I set clear boundaries, like designated “offline hours,” and I curate my feeds to prioritize voices that are insightful rather than superficial. That small act of discernment made a huge difference. I still enjoy the upside—staying connected with friends abroad and staying up to date with current trends—but I avoid falling into the trap of endless consumption. In a way, this shift has given me back a sense of agency, and I no longer feel enslaved to the algorithm.
