Discussing My Favorite Reality TV Series
Cirie: My friends are constantly asking me what I’m watching on TV, because they’re looking for new shows to watch.
Cirie: And one of the shows that I tell everybody about is not a new show. It’s actually one that’s been on the air for a long time. It’s “Survivor”.
Cirie: You may not even know that “Survivor” is still on the air, but I absolutely love this reality TV show.
Cirie: I would dare to say that it has just as much drama and intrigue as any scripted show.
Cirie: Each week, you watch your favorite characters battle it out until somebody is voted off the island. And ultimately, there’s only one survivor at the end, and that person wins a million dollars.
Cirie: It’s really exciting every season. I hope it’s on the air for a long time.
Vocabulary:
constantly – happening all the time, or repeating continuously without stopping, “The puppy is constantly barking whenever someone walks past the front window.”

drama – excitement, emotional tension, or unexpected conflict that happens in a story or in real life, “There was a lot of drama at the office when the computer systems suddenly crashed.”
intrigue – a strong feeling of mystery, curiosity, or secret plotting that makes you want to know more, “The historical movie was full of political intrigue and hidden secrets.”
scripted show – a television program where actors read pre-written lines and follow a strictly planned story, like a drama or a comedy, “I enjoy a good scripted show because the characters always have clever things to say.”
battle it out – to compete fiercely, fight, or argue against someone until a clear winner is decided, “The two best tennis players in the world will battle it out in the final match tomorrow.”
voted off – removed from a group, team, or competition because the majority of people voted against you, “She was disappointed to be voted off the cooking competition so early in the season.”
ultimately – in the end, or finally after a long series of events, challenges, or decisions, “He practiced his guitar every day and ultimately became a professional musician.”
survivor – a person who manages to stay alive or succeed through a dangerous, difficult situation, or the last person remaining in a tough competition, “The lone survivor of the competition walked away with the grand prize.”
