How long have you been teaching English?
I have been teaching English for 15+ years. I started my teaching career at a language school in South Africa where I taught adults in-person. In 2020 during the pandemic I began teaching English exclusively online to corporate business students.
What qualifications do you have?
- Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics from York University in Toronto, Canada (2022)
- 180-hour TESOL Canada English teaching certificate, recognized by TESL Canada (2021).
- Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa (2019)
- CELTA English teaching certificate administered through Cambridge University in the UK (2013)
Do you speak any other languages?
Yes! I speak both Portuguese and Spanish at an intermediate level. I learned these languages while travelling and living in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia. My knowledge of these languages helps me to understand why students make certain errors, and to explain the differences.
Do you only teach business English?
I specialize in teaching English to adults who need for their careers, but my classes are useful for anyone wanting to improve their general fluency in English.
I just want to have a conversation and practice my speaking. Is that ok?
Yes! My classes are based on a conversational approach to teaching. The goal is to get you to speak as much as possible, while giving you feedback so that you can improve your fluency and build your confidence.
What proficiency level do you teach?
I teach all proficiency levels, but students with intermediate to advanced levels (B1-C2) will benefit the most from my classes.
What times are you available for lessons?
Currently my teaching hours are Tuesday – Friday from 9am – 12pm Eastern Standard Time (New York/Toronto). I do my best to accommodate my student’s schedule and can make arrangements to outside these times if required. Here is a useful website for comparing different time zones: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/
How much are your lessons?
I offer six different class package options. See my classes page for pricing.
How long are your classes?
I offer 30-minute, 45-minute and 60-minute classes. If you require a longer class, this can also be arranged.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept all major credit cards, as well as other payment methods (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Ali Pay). My payments are all processed and handled securely through Stripe.
Can I use my first language in our classes?
Yes, absolutely! I use a plurilingual approach when teaching my students. I believe that your first language is a useful resource to use to help you learn another language! I welcome the use of your first language in my classes.
I just paid for classes on your website. What happens next?
Once I receive the payment I will contact you with the email address you provided to schedule our first class. Once we have agreed on a day and time I will email you a link to join the class.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please read my refund and cancellation policy before purchasing a class package. If you cancel the class less than 24 hours before it starts, you will be charged in full for the class. I understand that emergencies happen, so all students who purchase one of my class packages are given one free cancellation, allowing you to cancel anytime without any penalty in an emergency.
What platform do you use to teach online classes?
When you book a class, you will automatically receive a link via email to join the class on Google Meet. You can also access the meeting link via the appointment on Google Calendar.
What do I need to attend an online class?
Make sure you have a reliable internet connection, and a computer or laptop with a microphone and webcam. I also encourage students to bring a notepad and pen to write any useful notes from the class.
Can I join the class on my phone?
Yes, it is possible to join the class on your mobile phone. However I recommend that you join on your laptop or computer whenever possible, as this makes for a better learning experience.
Do I need to have my webcam on during the class?
I recommend you have your webcam on, as it makes for a better learning experience. However if you prefer to only use audio, that is ok too. I will always keep my webcam on during the class.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
It is not necessary to bring anything to our classes. I will always prepare a topic or activity depending on your learning goals, which we discuss in our first class. If you have a presentation or job interview for example, I strongly encourage you to prepare some material before our class, as this will help you to get the most benefit from our class.
What materials do you use for the class?
I source relevant learning materials from the internet, as well as my own catalog of teaching resources. Learning materials are personalized to your learning objectives for each class.
Do you teach companies?
Yes! If you are a company and want your employees to improve their English, contact me to find out about my services.
How do I book a lesson?
After purchasing a class package, you will receive an email with the link to the appointment schedule to book classes using your available class credits. See the Class Info page for more information about booking classes.
Do you teach group classes?
I currently don’t offer online group classes. However, if you have a group of friends or colleagues who want to take an online group class together with me, that can be arranged. Contact me for more information.
